Apple Music

The music industry has experienced significant changes that majorly attribute to the technological changes occurring in the world. Besides a singer’s voice, playing music requires integration and harmonization of a variety of sounds that come from musical instruments. The current digital technology has seen full use of electric machines in music. Accesses to the musical content have changed from analogue to digital means. Before the 21st century, most of the musical contents were accessible through tapes. In this 21st century, access to musical materials is increasingly becoming digital. Live streaming via the internet is the currently the most popular means of accessing musical contents through Smartphone. Launched on 30/06/2015, the Apple Music is the latest innovation in the music industry. The innovation bases on the internet supported live streaming technology. However, it brings improvements and contents that are absent anywhere else.

Methods of implementing the innovation

The Apple Music is an internet-based streaming service for music developed by the Apple Inc. The service enables users to subscribe to access and stream over 30 million music contents. The innovation is only accessible to users of products associated to Apple Inc. The products include iPads, iPods, and iPhones touch versions that run on the iOS 8.4 of latest versions of iOSs. According to Bershidsky, the service is also accessible on PC and Mac through the iTunes 12.2 or latest versions of the same. Apple Watches can also access the Apple Music features. The Company has already introduced the innovation into its Apple TV and phones that operate on Android. Individual subscription costs $9.99 while family subscription costs $14.99 per month.

The maximum number of household members that can share the Apple Music is six, and only possible through the iCloud Family Sharing. The services offered by the Apple Inc. Through its Apple Music include the Beats 1, the Connect, and curated playlist. Subscribers to the Apple Music can select music on their devices that then play the selection through internet streaming (Bernard). The innovation allows the users to save the music they play on their devices for later offline use. This technology is unavailable in the previous similar technologies such as the Spotify, Hulu, Tidal, and HBO.

The Beat 1 is a radio site that offers live broadcast to the global audiences by DJs operating from New York, Los Angeles, and London. The Beats 1 works 24 hours throughout the week. The Beat 1 platform offers pop, interviews involving artists, culture news, and curated song selections (Bershidsky). With curation, the Apple Music provides recommendations tailored to the tastes of the users. The curation also involves a search for artists that one likes and proposing playlists.

The Connect is social networking platform developed by Apple for the Apple Music to enable artists to link with the fans. Nakashima elaborates that the feature allows artists to share video and photos with the fans. Furthermore, the Connect has the potential to make fans follow artists automatically upon adding particular songs to their music libraries. Nonetheless, fans have the option to overturn the automatic addition.

Problems in the development of the innovation and potential solutions

Having launched in June 2015, the Apple Music is under development as the Company takes complaints and challenges faced by the users. Just like any other innovations, the Apple Music characterizes with some problems that seem to scare the potential consumers. Jim Dalrymple, who is an Apple watcher, complained about the Apple Music app deleting about 4000 songs after the app presented many options that were confusing (Yamshon). However, it later got some of the lost songs. Some users have also complained that the Apple Music app has most of the functions and commands obscured or changed. The users specified that when they attempted to create playlists, the app deleted songs available in the playlist. The bad side of song deletions is that it happens once as an exploding bomb.

The iCloud application that is mandatory for downloading songs into the playlist seems to be the main cause of song deletions. Experienced users have noted that it is hard to make song tracks if one is not using the iCloud. This situation then means that Apple’s clients that do not like using the iCloud can only benefit partially (Yamshon). Unlike other similar services, the Apple Music allows users to develop and share music playlists but prevents public access to the contents prepared and shared by friends. The Spotify has a platform that allows development and sharing of music with public facing. Unavailability of such features on the Apple Music platform is giving other services competitive advantages.

The problems discussed above as having occurred during Apple’s move to develop its Apple Music innovation have a potential solution. The Apple Inc. Only needs to take action to explore the viability of the solutions and implement improvements to its innovation (Rosoff). Since it is clear that enabling of the iCloud is the main reason that Apple users cannot keep tracks of songs, the Company should make immediate moves to eliminate the iCloud features that frustrate customers.

The Apple Inc. Needs to update the software of the Apple Music with superior features so that it eases the process of creating playlists. The Company should heed to the comments of the users posted on the social media. The Apple Company also needs to investigate and rectify the errors that delete playlists already saved by the users. The number of songs lost by clients is vast and alarming.

Issues debated in the topic area

Users of the Apple Music have expressed many opinions concerning the innovation. One of the questions debated concerns the effect of the innovation on the battery life of Apple phones used to consume the innovation. The innovation seems to reduce the battery life of the handheld Apple gadgets. The second issue debated about the Apple Music is its dependence on the iCloud for offline services. The iCloud makes it difficult for users to transfer music libraries when offline. The third issue debated on the Apple Music concerns the move by the Apple Company of refusing to reimburse artists, producers, and songwriters during its first three months of trial.

Effects of the innovation on your field and the industry in general

The Apple Music innovation is transforming the field of communication in a great style and impact. The technology is making it possible for artists and fans to link and engage with one another through the Connect (Bernard). This feature enables fans to know the artists of the music deeper and even experience a close relationship. The integration of the Connect function into the Apple Music is also expanding the social media base. The Connect is adding up to the already long list of social media sites where people engage and share experiences.

The Apple Music is transforming the music industry more than leading technologies have achieved. By enabling access to musical contents on its online platform, Apple Music is helping music singers and producers to reduce costs incurred in the process of producing their materials. Nakashima describes that the feature that enables the Apple Music to propose playlists to the subscribers works to cut the costs that producers would use in advertising the songs. The innovation is working to open the life of singers to the fans so that the parties can have good understandings of each other.
